Throughout Central and Western New York, and in other parts of the country, Border Patrol and ICE are performing "sweeps" of buses and trains, seeking out travelers based on appearance or language and under the guise of Homeland Security. The reality is that tax payer money is being wasted by funding an overstaffed Border Protection presence far from the border, rounding up immigrants without proper documentation but who have committed no crime.
These sweeps separate families, remove workers from important jobs, and deny basic human rights and dignity.
Though these acts, and the fear they bring to immigrant communities are hurting travelers, Amtrak and Greyhound have refused to come to the table. Instead, they have continued to collaborate with these agencies despite their illegal activities and harassment of travelers.
Join us on Friday, December 19, in our demonstration to demand that Amtrak and Greyhound come to the table, and recognize that the actions of Border Patrol are illegal activity, which threaten the well-being of their passengers.
