Know Your Rights & Witness Campaign
The Overground Railroad Know Your Rights & Witness Campaign aims to highlight the injustices of enforcement-only immigration policy. Traveling is a human right.
Live outside of Central New York?
Many travelers have been questioned and arrested by Border Patrol while passing through Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo on their trip. Far from home, those who can not produce current documents proving their immigration status are then detained at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility or other contracted facilities.
Be advised that travelers experiencing no problem elsewhere may find themselves unexpectedly approached by Border Patrol when they arrive or pass through Central New York. Please share this information with travelers in your area and all who may be at risk!
Building the Overground Railroad
The Detention Task Force has launched a Know Your Rights and witness campaign to highlight the injustices of US migration policy.
- We collect stories from travelers in our community - citizens and non-citizens - who have experienced or witnessed questioning or arrest by Border Patrol.
- We distribute Know Your Rights information to travelers warning them about the dangers of traveling through Syracuse
- We call on greyhound and Amtrak to stop collaborating with Border Patrol and disclose to travelers that they are subject to questioning about their citizenship.
- We call on Border Patrol to stop using our transportation center as a migration check point
