DTF Wins Human Rights Award

If you haven't yet heard the news, it is our pleasure to announce that the Detainment Task Force has been selected by the Onondaga County/Syracuse Commission on Human Rights to receive an award in the "group" category, for "those who demonstrate a contribution to the cause of human rights in our County."

The award will be presented at the
29th Annual Human Rights Luncheon at Drumlins Banquet Center in Syracuse
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

You are most welcome to join us in this event, where you will also have a chance to celebrate the achievements of those in youth, individual, corporate, and criminal justice categories. The cost of the luncheon is $15 per person. Call Bridget Owens, luncheon coordinator, at 435-3567, ASAP, for details about how to reserve your seat at a table. Brothers and Sisters,

ICE arrests locally have reached a new low today. Two farm workers, both of whom were injured in an explosion about two years ago, were picked up by ICE as the workers were on their way to a doctor's appointment. We are extremely concerned about the medical and psychological consequences of these arrests (the explosion itself was traumatizing enough), and we are also appalled at the racism involved when people are "driving while Latino."
